Founded in 2013, the Warbirds of Glory Museum is dedicated to restoring and preserving historic military aircraft while mentoring the next generation of craftsmen and historians.
Our flagship project—the B-25 Mitchell bomber known as the Sandbar Mitchell—anchors our restoration work and our commitment to honoring those who served.

The Restoration
Manufactured in 1944, this North American B-25J Mitchell Bomber was delivered to the USAAF for service as a bomber trainer. In 1959 it was then sold for civilian use as a fire suppression bomber. While fighting a forest fire near Fairbanks, Alaska, in the late 60s, she experienced double engine failure and landed gear-up on a sandbar in the Tanana River, earning her name “Sandbar Mitchell.”

Student Apprenticeship
The Student Apprenticeship Program was created to develop young talent to aid in the restoration of Sandbar Mitchell. Students work side-by-side in a mentorship-style working environment learning manufacturing trade skills such as machining, fabrication, CAD/CAM, and toolmaking by working on aircraft sub-assemblies and structures.
